A rare and fine pair of 18th Century Anglo-Portuguese rosewood armchairs. Uniquely recognizable as Portuguese, these chairs were made during the reign of Dom Joao (King Joseph I, rule 1750-1777). Having cartouche shaped backs with pierced splat and finely carved Rococo C-scroll top rail, out swept reeded arms, and raised on cabriole legs with foliate carved knees and scrolled leaf feet. Made of the finest solid Brazilian “pau santo” or rosewood. Circa:1760
